During that season, Oettinger was recognized as the Hockey East Goaltender of the Month for the month of October. He also received the Hockey East Rookie of the Week award twice, the Hockey East Defensive Player of the Week award twice, and the Hockey East Top Performer award four times.

As a result, at the end of the season, he was recognized as a member of the Hockey East All-Rookie Team as well as the Hockey East Second Team All-Star. During his second season at Boston University, Oettinger was named to the Hockey East All-Tournament Team of the 2018 Hockey East Men’s Ice Hockey Tournament. In addition, he was awarded the William Flynn Tournament Most Valuable Player award after he assisted Boston in winning their ninth Hockey East Tournament title. Both of these accolades came after he helped Boston win their ninth Hockey East Tournament title. Prior to the start of the 2018–19 campaign, Oettinger and Chad Krys were both given the honor of being selected as alternative captains for the Terriers.

Professional Career of Jake Oettinger

Oettinger signed a three-year entry-level deal with the Dallas Stars on March 25, 2019, and was immediately sent to the Dallas Stars’ American Hockey League (AHL) club, the Texas Stars, on an amateur tryout contract.

After making his debut with the Texas Stars, Oettinger posted a save percentage of.897 and a goals-against average of 3.34 in the first eight contests of his career with the team.

On March 3, 2020, he received a call up from the National Hockey League for the first time since Ben Bishop was dealing with a lower-body injury.

It was in the third period of the second game of the 2020 Western Conference Final against the Vegas Golden Knights that he made his debut as a member of the National Hockey League on September 8, 2020. He was filling in for Anton Khudobin. Oettinger replaced Bishop as the Stars’ backup goalkeeper for the 2020–21 season when Bishop was ruled out for the upcoming season. Oettinger made his first appearance in a Stars victory during the regular season on January 28, 2021, when the Stars beat the Detroit Red Wings. Throughout the course of the season, he started 24 games for the squad and made an additional 5 appearances in relief, gradually overtaking Khudobin as the starting goaltender for the team. Oettinger began the 2021–22 season playing in the AHL. He made a total of 10 appearances and had a record of 4–5–2 in those contests. However, he was quickly called up to play in the NHL again since the other goaltenders on the squad were injured and needed replacements. As soon as he arrived, he was thrust into the role of starting goaltender and went on to compile a record of 30–15–1 with a save % of 914 throughout the regular season. This performance was a significant contributor to the Stars’ ability to qualify for the Stanley Cup playoffs in 2022.

The Stars were thought to be underdogs in their first-round encounter against the Calgary Flames because they had secured the final wildcard berth and were matched up against Calgary in the first round. Despite this, the series turned out to be much more competitive than everyone anticipated, and a large portion of the credit for this goes to Oettinger. In fact, The Hockey News referred to Oettinger as “bar none, the first star of the first round.”

With a save percentage of 954, Oettinger led all goaltenders in the first round. His save percentage is also the second-highest in the history of the Stars, trailing only Ed Belfour’s performance in the second round of the 1998 draft. The climax occurred in Game 7, where the Stars took the game to overtime despite the Flames making twice as many shots and attempts as the Stars. Oettinger recorded 64 saves, which is the second-highest number in the history of the playoffs, trailing only Kelly Hrudey’s 73 saves during the 1987 Easter Epic. The Stars were knocked out of the playoffs when Flames forward Johnny Gaudreau scored the winning goal in overtime to bring the game’s final score to 3–2. Following the game, Oettinger stated that he believed he was “only touching the surface of where I’m going to be one day.”

Oettinger joined the Stars on September 1, 2022, after signing a contract with them that was worth $12 million over the course of three years.

He got off to a strong start in the 2022–23 season, posting a record of 5–1–0 and a save percentage of.960 through the first five games of the season, before leaving a game on October 29 against the New York Rangers with an ailment to his lower body that was not detailed.

After waiting another two weeks, he was reinstated to the active roster of the Stars. His Mother and Father Enjoyed Being Able To Watch Him Ply In His First NHL Game For The Stars.
When Chris and Kelly Oettinger’s family stops by, they worry and smile at the same time since their kid, a rookie, just scored.

The father of Jake would look to Jake’s mother in confusion, wondering what they had been up to and what had just taken place.

They felt a sense of accomplishment when they found out that their kid had been selected by the Dallas Stars with the 26th overall pick in the 2017 NHL Entry Draft.

When their son was named an NHL All-Star for the first time in a victory for Dallas in 1973, the Oettinger couple couldn’t contain their joy and burst into tears. They were keeping an eye on their child from the luxury room they had at the American Airlines Center (AAC).

Several of Chris’ friends from high school and college were present to witness the kid play in his first NGL game in Dallas. Also in attendance were Jake’s fiancée Kennedi, her father Chad, and some of Chris’ other bubbies.

He made 20 saves to ensure that the Stars would keep their unblemished record. Even though Chris was experiencing some anxiousness at the time, he still felt as though he was in a dream during that moment.

Chris made the remark at the time that it was amazing looking back now because the team won and his son did well on the performance. In addition to this, he revealed that he was most likely more anxious than Jake.
