The film ‘1923,’ produced by Paramount+ and expanding upon the history of the Dutton family, serves as a prequel to the film ‘Yellowstone’
After giving up on his hunting endeavours in Africa, Spencer Dutton, played by Brandon Sklenar, makes preparations in the fifth episode to get back together with his family.
In spite of this, Spencer is compelled to take a tugboat that will get him to the Suez Canal because he was unable to reserve a cabin on any ship.
During the course of his travels, Spencer comes into contact with the captain of the tugboat. This man is, to put it mildly, an intriguing character.
If you found yourself captivated by the tugboat captain’s presence in the movie “1923,” then keep reading to find out everything there is to know about him!

Yellowstone 1923: Who is Captain of the Tugboat?
After learning about the trauma that his family is going through, Spencer makes the decision to go back home in the fifth episode of “1923,” which is titled “Ghost of Zebrina.”
Spencer and Alexandra are attempting to find a way to get to the United States. However, there is not a ship that can take them to the United States of America.
They had no choice but to travel to London, which is located in the United Kingdom. On the other hand, a woman will not be welcome on the ship that is going to London.
As a result, Spencer has little choice but to look for an alternative means of transportation. Later on, Spencer makes the acquaintance of Lucca, who is the captain of a tugboat.
Lucca is an experienced sailor who captains a tugboat that makes the journey from Nairobi, Kenya, to the Suez Canal. Lucca is looking for people to serve as deckhands beside him on the journey.
Spencer makes Lucca an offer of payment and accepts to work for him as a deckhand. In return, Spencer offers to let Lucca drop him off at the Suez Canal, from which he would continue on to London. In a few while, Spencer and Alexandra will go with Lucca.
After preventing the tugboat from colliding with a “ghost ship” earlier in their journey, Lucca explains to the young couple the notion of “ghost ships” to them.
Spencer, on the other hand, comes to the conclusion that Lucca is ill and most likely has tuberculosis. Lucca succumbs to his illness, and in the end, Spencer and Alexandra are the only ones left to steer the tugboat by themselves.
Yellowstone 1923: Who Is the Lucca Player?
Peter Stormare plays the role of Lucca, a sailor, in the movie “1923.” Actor Peter Stormare was given the birth name Rolf Peter Ingvar Storm. He is of Swedish and American descent.
Stormare made his debut in the film industry in 1978 with a supporting role in the Swedish crime movie “Lyftet.” After making appearances in a number of films produced in Sweden, Peter Stormare moved on to pursue a career as an actor in the United States during the ’80s and ’90s, performing in both feature films and television shows.
Stormare’s supporting performance as Uli Kunkel/Karl Hungus in the 1998 crime-comedy picture ‘The Big Lebowski,’ which was directed by Joel and Ethan Coen, is largely responsible for his rise to prominence.
The actor has a recurrent part in the critically renowned crime thriller ‘Prison Break,’ in which he plays the character John Abruzzi. Stormare is also known for his role as Czernobog in the fantasy drama series ‘American Gods,’ which some fans may recognise him from.
Stormare is well-known not just for his appearances in films and television series, but also for the voice roles he has played in animated films and television shows, as well as in video games.
He was married to the actress Karen Sillas from 1989 until 2006 when they divorced. In 2008, he tied the knot with Toshimi Stormare, and the two of them are now parents to a little girl named Kaiya Bella Luna Stormare. The household is located in Los Angeles.
It has been announced that Stormare will play the lead role in the upcoming 2023 fantasy drama film titled “The Wizard Hunter: The Hunt for Evangelion Crowley.”
When it comes to the production of western dramas, it would appear that Taylor Sheridan, the creator of Yellowstone (2018-), is unstoppable.
The much awaited spinoff 1923, which was once known by its original title of 1932, is now the fourth series that focuses on the Dutton family, who are the owners of the famous Yellowstone ranch.
The series is produced by 101 Studios and MTV Entertainment Studios, both of which are owned by Paramount Network. It stars two of the most iconic performers in the industry, Harrison Ford and Helen Mirren. This is actually the sixth series that Paramount has co-produced with Taylor Sheridan, and it is the prequel.
Following in the footsteps of the spinoff series 1883, the events of 1923 take place approximately 35 years prior to the birth of Yellowstone’s main character, John Dutton III.
In 1923, the focus will be on how significant historical events such as World War I and Prohibition affected subsequent generations of Duttons in the family.

Yellowstone 1923: Trailer
Our first glance at the main characters as they appear in live-action during the year 1923 was provided by the official trailer.
It is evident that 1923 will not be a tranquil programme because it features scenes from World War I as well as gunfights and characters wielding guns.
Yellowstone 1923: Plot
The planned Yellowstone prequel’s primary focus was shifted from its initial intention, which was to examine how the Great Depression and the end of the Prohibition era influenced the American West and the Dutton family’s place in it.
However, under its new moniker, the series will concentrate not just on the time period following the First World War, but also on the times of Western Expansion, Prohibition, and the Great Depression.
The former didn’t begin until 1929, whereas the latter made its way to Montana ten years earlier than that.
It’s possible that Taylor Sheridan saw something historical amiss with the time period in question. In 1926, Montana was the first state in the nation to repeal the prohibition law.
Therefore, there is no way that the programme could have focused on the time period of Prohibition if Sheridan had preserved the original title of 1932.
Helen Mirren portrayed the role of Cara Dutton in the year 1923.
Because the drama takes place in 1917, which is closer to the end of World War I, the events of that year will have a larger and more intricate impact on the characters.
The first Yellowstone spinoff was published in 1883, and it detailed the narrative of how the Dutton family escaped poverty and travelled across the Great Plains in search of a better future.
In the meantime, the next prequel will provide us with some insight into how the Dutton family overcame historical obstacles in their new home.
Yellowstone 1923: Review
“1923 concentrates on the next two generations of the Dutton family as they struggle to survive record drought, lawlessness and prohibition, and an epidemic of cattle theft; all of which battled beneath the cloud of Montana’s great depression, which predated the nation’s for almost a decade.”
In a manner not dissimilar to that of the original series, 1923 will likewise focus on the problems that arise between the Dutton family and the native tribes.
Taylor Sheridan has demonstrated on numerous occasions that Native American narratives hold a special place in his heart and feature prominently in the majority of the programmes that he creates.
Harrison Ford, who plays the lead role on the programme, spoke with Vanity Fair for an exclusive interview in which he detailed all of the obstacles that the Dutton family must overcome during the time period depicted on the show:
It’s not simply the physical aspects of life that are challenging. The obstacles that they encounter as a result of modernity, the challenges to their way of life, to their independence, and to the opportunities that they’ve enjoyed up to this point make up a significant portion of the narrative.
This very unstable period in American history is leading up to the Great Depression, and all of the forces, both economic and social, that are building up to it.
He went on to say that in order for the Duttons to have succeeded throughout the generations, they have always been required to adhere to a strict moral code in which the boundary between right and wrong is not always clear.
In addition, Ford drew attention to the striking disparity between the level of wealth held by the Dutton family in the early 20th century and that held by the family in modern times.
He stated that he does not consider the Duttons of 1923 to be “wealthy,” but rather as having respectable authority as a result of their historical existence and the effort they have put in.
“The weather, the economy, the flood of railroads, and the change in the cattle business are all working against them. “
This is a challenging and difficult period. This is a precarious time. “They have a lot of land, but they are cash-poor because everything they make goes back into the ranch and the business,” the actor said in an interview with Vanity Fair.
Helen Mirren, who also stars in the programme, describes the Yellowstone prequel as “a real exploration of American history,” which is in accordance with the perspective that Harrison Ford has on the show.
Yellowstone 1923: Cast
- The legendary actors Helen Mirren and Harrison Ford are among those included in 1923’s cast. Early in September, it was revealed by Paramount+ that Ford will be reprising his role as Jacob Dutton, the father of the Yellowstone Ranch and brother of 1883’s James Dutton. While Mirren will play his wife, Cara Dutton, in the movie.
- According to Vanity Fair, the programme will portray Jacob and Cara Dutton as the relied-upon leaders of the entire Dutton clan.
- It would appear that James and Margaret are no longer active in 1923, and although we do not yet know what happened to the influential couple from 1883, the show will most likely investigate the reason for their disappearance.
- During an exclusive interview, Helen Mirren, who won an Oscar for her role as Cara in the series, revealed that it is likely that her character emigrated from Ireland to the United States during the potato famine of the 19th century.
- As a result of this, the actress asked that she have an Irish accent in the programme to reflect the fact that she had recently immigrated to the United States.
- In addition, Harrison Ford, who played the role of Indiana Jones, disclosed that Jacob and Cara were married for a significant amount of time in 1923 and that their union was a strong one that kept everything together.
- In the fantasy epic “Game of Thrones,” Jerome Flynn played the role of sellsword Ser Bronn of the Blackwater. Flynn will be joining the other award-winning performers on the set.
- Flynn will play Banner Creighton in 1923. Creighton is described as having “a hard-headed Scottish brogue” and is the leader of the local sheep men.
- In the episode, the “sheep men” and the Duttons are rival ranchers who rely on the same property for grazing their cattle. Both families are eager to fight for ownership rights to the land, which they use for grazing their livestock.
- The Yellowstone spin-off will also include Robert Patrick, an actor who has been in Sons of Anarchy and Terminator 2. It is planned for him to portray the part of Sheriff William McDowell, a friend of the Dutton family.
