On Sunday night, authorities said that a car with human remains was found in a lake in California near where Kiely Rodni was last thought to be.
Adventures With Purpose, a private group of divers, confirmed the find in Prosser Lake, about 35 miles west of Reno, Nevada, on Sunday afternoon.
Representative for the Nevada County Sheriff’s Office Andrew Trygg said that investigators were at the scene late Sunday afternoon trying to figure out if Rodni was driving the car.
Later, the nearby Placer County Sheriff’s Office confirmed that the dive team had said there was a body inside, but they said they didn’t know who had died.

On Monday morning, there was going to be a press conference. In a statement, Adventures With Purpose said that it had found a car that was still in the lake.
When asked why they were so sure that what they had found was related to the missing person case, the team didn’t answer right away.
The team said that it was found in water that was 14 feet deep. Doug Bishop of Adventures With a Purpose said that sonar imaging technology was used to make the find. It was made about 300 yards from the campground.
The police were trying to find Kiely Rodni’s 2013 Honda CR-V. On Sunday night, when the car was pulled out of the lake, it was quickly covered with what looked like sheets or a tarp.
Kiely and the car disappeared after her phone sent its last message at 12:30 a.m. on August 6. Authorities were worried about a possible kidnapping and kept pointing out that there were a lot of young people at the party.
