Avion Sanders was charged with killing 18-year-old Jacob Hills from Grand Blanc on Friday, August 12. On July 25, Jacob Hills’s body was found in the garage of an apartment complex in Detroit. He had been shot.
Sanders was arrested on August 9 and charged with first-degree murder, as well as other theft, felony murder, being a convicted criminal in possession of a firearm, and three felony firearm violations.
Documents from Wayne County District Court say that Sanders didn’t say anything while the court pleaded not guilty on his behalf.
Avion Sanders and Jacob Hills are said to have gone to a party together.
In the 22330 block of West Warren Avenue in Detroit, the body of Jacob Hills was found in the basement of an apartment building. He’d been shot more than once.
Prosecutors said that Jacob Hills and Avion Sanders met at a party where Hills brought a brand-new AR-15 that he had just bought. When they left the party, they got in their car and drove to the apartment on Warren Avenue. Even though they went into the basement together, Sanders is said to have left the building alone after a while.
Police in Detroit arrested Avion Sanders on Tuesday and charged him with killing 18-year-old Jacob Hills, whose body was found in a Detroit basement.
Through the Life360 app, Jacob Hills’ mother was able to find his phone, she told the press. Hills’ parents called the police when they hadn’t heard from him in a few hours. On July 24, police found Jacob’s phone in his unlocked car in the parking lot of a hookah lounge on North Telegraph Road in Dearborn Heights.
At 1:11 a.m. on July 25, they went to the address on West Warren Avenue and found Hills in the basement. He had been shot several times. He was said to be dead right away.
Avion Sanders is thought to have killed Hills, taken his gun, and left his car at the hookah lounge after he killed him.
UPDATE ON ARREST: A suspect has been caught and charged in the killing of Grand Blanc teen Jacob Hills.
Hills bought an AR-15 rifle from ACME Shooting Goods in Oxford at some point before the party. According to news reports, Hills’ mother said that he bought the gun to get ready for Army National Guard boot camp.
Kym Worthy, the prosecutor for Wayne County, talked to the press and said:
“We try not to judge cases too quickly because the facts aren’t always what they seem to be or what the news says they are.” We think we can prove this case beyond a reasonable doubt in court after a careful look at the DPD investigation and the order of events.
Records from the Wayne County Circuit Court show that Sanders has been violent in the past.
Police records show that Sanders was charged with a number of crimes in the past. In October 2020, he was accused of shooting his fiancee and then locking himself in an apartment with their young daughter.
If he is found guilty of killing Jacob Hills, he will spend the rest of his life in jail without the chance of getting out.
