Richard Sigman: Lecturer at the University of West Georgia, has been charged with killing Anna Jones
First-year student Anna Jones, 18, was allegedly killed off-campus early on Saturday, July 30, by a University of West Georgia professor.
Richard Sigman, 47, is accused of killing the student, whose loss the university is mourning. Sigman has reportedly been arrested and charged with homicide, aggravated assault, and having a gun while committing a crime, according to Carrollton PD. According to official sources, Anna Jones was killed in the restaurant parking lot after the former professor and she had a contentious conversation.

In a statement, Dr. Brendan Kelly, the school’s president, said:
The University of West Georgia has learnt of the passing of Anna Jones, one of its students, who died following an incident earlier today off-campus.
A freshman student was fatally shot by a University of West Georgia professor early this morning in a Carrollton parking garage, according to the police. Friends of Anna Jones, 18, are airing their opinions tonight at 11 on @FOX5Atlanta.
Investigation of the Anna Jones murder case
Richard Sigman and another guy got into a verbal confrontation in the parking lot of an Italian restaurant around midnight, according to reports made public by Carrollton Police. In between the arguments, the accused allegedly threatened to draw a gun on him.

“The investigation shows that at that point, Sigman entered the parking garage and started firing into a parked car, hitting the victim. Friends drove her to the hospital right away, where she was later declared dead.
The man informed the security guard of Sigman’s threats. The guard allegedly asked Sigman to leave after spotting him with a gun. Sigman, however, turned around and began firing into a car that was parked in a lot near to Carrollton’s well-known entertainment district, Adamson Square.
It is unknown if Anna Jones, who was allegedly struck during this time, was the intended victim. Her pals allegedly drove her to the hospital, where she was subsequently pronounced dead, according to police.
Family and friends of Anna Jones expressed their sorrow at her passing
Jones has established a GoFundMe page to cover her burial costs. Jones was praised in the event as being stunning and having a contagious smile. It further states,
A town is in mourning, a family is in mourning, and many people’s hearts have been torn by this needless and horrific act.
Her friends and family members also posted on social media to express their shock and grief. Stephanie Hodges, one of her previous students, noted that Anna had a natural knack for teaching youngsters and was eager to pursue a career in that field.
Tyler Jones, a family friend, also posted on social media to express his heartbreak over Anna’s untimely passing. The family has gotten a lot of love and support during this difficult time, and Tyler said he is still at a loss for words.
Dr. Brendan Kelly, the school’s president, added in a statement that
“UWG has terminated Richard Sigman’s job and is still collaborating with the Carrollton Police Department, which is in charge of this continuing inquiry. We would like to offer Anna’s family and numerous friends our sincere sympathies on behalf of the university.
Sources claim that the family is not yet ready to deal with the media or to discuss Jones’ passing.
