Nick Cannon was fired by ViacomCBS on July 14, 2020, because he said racist and anti-Semitic things on an episode of his podcast Cannon’s Class with Professor Griff. Cannon agreed with conspiracy theories that Jews control the money system. He also said that Jews stole the identity of “black people as the ‘true Hebrews,’” and he referred to Louis Farrakhan, who the Southern Poverty Law Center and the Anti-Defamation League call an anti-semite. Cannon also said things that were racist against white people. For example, he called white people “savages” who were “closer to animals” and said that the “only way they can act is evil.” He did this by referring to the bogus melanin theory. ViacomCBS said in a statement that it had ended its relationship with Cannon because he spread “hateful speech and anti-Semitic conspiracy theories.” Two days later, Cannon only apologized for his anti-Semitic comments. He said, “I want to reassure my new and old Jewish friends that this is only the beginning of my education.” He also wanted full ownership of Wild ‘n Out and for ViacomCBS to say sorry for firing him. When Fox found out about his podcast, they talked to him right away and accepted his public apology, so he could keep being the host of The Masked Singer. In light of the event, he gave his first paycheck to the Simon Wiesenthal Center. ViacomCBS announced on February 5, 2021, that Cannon would be back as the host of Wild ‘N Out. They said that Cannon had “taken responsibility for his comments” and “worked to educate himself” by talking to Jewish leaders.
