Eugene Huelsman: Who is he? After California man threatened to kill Representative Matt Gaetz was given a six-month home detention term
For threatening to kill Matt Gaetz, a 40-year-old US representative in Florida, Eugene Huelsman, a 59-year-old cameraman, was given a six-month home confinement sentence on Thursday, according to the prosecution.
According to Yahoo, Eugene Huelsman threatened to shoot Matt Gaetz in a voicemail on January 9, 2021.
According to court records, he stated:
You horrible tyrant, I’m going to shoot you, and I pray you die in a grave.
Eugene Huelsman’s defense attorney, Curtis Fallgatter, claims that the threat was made in retaliation to the attack on the US Capitol on January 6, which took place 3 days before the voicemail was left. Huelsman allegedly thought Gaetz was instrumental in starting the disturbances.
Eugene Huelsman was merely horrified by the Capitol attack
Huelsman was given a 6-month home confinement term for one count of transmitting a threat, along with a 5-year probation term and a $1,000 fine.
The man who was found guilty of intimidating Matt Gaetz is fully disclosed.
Huelsman is a cameraman who has worked for NBC, ABC, and CNN, according to Business Insider. Between 2004 and 2014, he was nominated for 9 Prime Time Emmys and won 1 of them.
A former CNN cameraman who threatened to “place a bullet” in Rep. Matt Gaetz received a 6-month house detention term, a 5-year parole term, and a $10,000 fine. Eugene Huelsman, 59, of Thousand Oaks, California, pled guilty to the charge of transmitting a threat in interstate commerce.
Huelsman was one of 32 people who received a Daytime Emmy in 2014 for Outstanding Technical Team during the Disney Parks Christmas Day Parade. Huelsman was nominated for his work on programs including Saturday Night Live and Late Night with Conan O’Brien.
Matt Gaetz may not be the first politician Huelsman threatened, according to prosecutors, despite his success as a cameraman for Hollywood and various news organizations. The Justice Department said that Huelsman had been investigated in the past for threatening the family of an unnamed US President.
Only Rep. Matt Gaetz deserves death threats in voicemails, according to @ACTBrigitte and @RepMattGaetz.
Jason Coody, US Attorney for the Northern District of Florida, criticized Huelsman’s conduct in reaction to the threat made against Matt Gaetz.
He stated:
“Our democracy depends on the right to free speech. However, it is obviously illegal for someone who has previously made and been investigated for making comparable threats of physical violence to communicate those threats.
Huelsman’s lawyer, Curtis Fallgatter, stated in a news release that the former cameraman has had trouble finding employment since his arrest in 2021.
He concedes that none of that supported his decision, and he really regrets doing so.
Added him:
“(Huelsman) is quite ashamed.”
Fallgatter stated that Huelsman intends to enroll in an anger management program while on probation.
