What is Ethan Liming’s name? After a ‘water gun’ battle, a teen was battered to death near the LeBron James-founded school.
In a school parking lot, Ethan Liming was battered to death. A brawl erupted after a plastic water pistol was fired near an Ohio school run by NBA superstar LeBron James’ charity, and a 17-year-old student was killed. Authorities say Ethan Liming and two friends were driving around Akron on June 2nd, firing the SplatRBall Water Bead Blaster at things and maybe unsuspecting people, before stopping in the parking lot of James’ I Promise School around 10:40 p.m.
On one of the nearby courts, one of them fired the fake gun at a group of four basketball players. According to his father, Bill Liming, who talked to ABC5 Cleveland, a brief altercation broke out, and Liming, who had been sitting in the car, got out to try to settle the situation. The senior student at Firestone Community Learning Center may not have recognized the gravity of the issue based on a conversation he had with a detective. “Ethan still felt it was horseplay when he got out of the car and was trying to tell folks, ‘It’s casual,” Bill told ABC5 Cleveland. It’s all in good fun. It’s a joke,’ says the narrator. And this did not sit well with the folks. One person assaulted him. Ethan continued to try to convince them that it was all a joke. Then another person appeared from behind them and hit him in the head.”
Las Vegas is a popular tourist destination. After a video surfaced of a high school girl abusing a classmate while the other kids laughed, she was jailed.
Ethan Liming was located unresponsive on the ground, according to officials. He was pronounced dead on the spot, the cause of death being blunt force injuries to the head. The boy ‘lost his life in a needless act of violence,’ according to Chief Stephen Mylett of the Akron Police Department, who added that he ‘did not deserve to die.’ Anyone with information regarding the culprits is asked to contact Akron Mayor Dan Horrigan. “This type of violence in our town has ripple effects that touch each person, including myself, in significant ways,” he said in a statement. “I know the city of Akron is in grief because of this enormous loss,” he said.
In 2018, James established the I Promise School as a partnership between his organization and Akron Public Schools. At the time of the fatal attack, it was closed for the summer vacation. “Our condolences go out to the family that lost a dear one!!” the Los Angeles Lakers star tweeted the day after Ethan Liming’s death. May the skies above keep you safe during this terrible time! Please pray for our neighborhood!” In a statement, the LeBron James Family Foundation expressed its “devastation.” “We are hurting with our community over another senseless act of violence,” the statement adds. As we continue to do everything we can to help our students, families, and the entire Akron community, our I PROMISE School campus remains safe and secure.”
