Beginning in the early year 2023, Amazon Prime Video will debut the horror thriller series titled “The Rig.”

It is directed by John Strickland (Bodyguard, Line of Duty), and it follows the crew of the fictitious oil rig Kinloch Bravo, which is stationed in the perilous waters of the North Sea off the coast of Scotland.

As the team of laborers prepares to make their way back to the mainland, an eerie fog rolls in and a mystery power begins to exert its influence over them.

Simultaneously, they find that they are suddenly unable to communicate with anybody or anything in the outside world. After that, an assortment of unspeakable horrors began to strike the rig.

During the time that the team is attempting to figure out what is behind this mysterious power, there is a catastrophic accident that compels them to question who they can actually rely on.

Relationships are severed, new allegiances are forged, and fault lines between generations are revealed. The crew of the Kinloch Bravo is pushed to the breaking point, both in terms of their loyalty and their ability to endure.

The Rig: Release Date

On Friday, January 6, 2023, The Rig will make its debut on Prime Video in an exclusive capacity.

It will be broken up into a total of six episodes.

At the Edinburgh TV Festival 2022, Prime Video’s Daisy Mount, who is also the Head of Amazon Originals for the UK, disclosed that the series had been in development for a substantial amount of time due to the significant amount of visual effects that are included in the show.

The Rig: Cast Interview

According to Martin, “On an oil rig, to some extent, there are two worlds: there’s the management, but they’re in the dry and the warm; and then there are the people outside, coated in oil and getting their hands dirty, so there’s a lot of tension.”

To some extent, Fulmer exists in both worlds simultaneously. Because he is in charge of communications, he must spend time on the mast occasionally to make repairs; nevertheless, he spends the majority of his time inside, thus he is caught between the two environments.

In addition to this, he is romantically involved with the character of Rose Mason, played by Emily Hampshire, who is considered to be a corporate woman and is not the most popular figure on the rig. Because the others see her to be pushing quotas and cost-cutting, and other such things, they believe that he is the teacher’s pet because of this.

Have you had to put in a lot of physical labor for this role?

Martin shares his thoughts, saying, “Yeah, that was one of the selling aspects for me.” I enjoy a good brawl every once in a while.

Fulmer gets to play a pivotal role in one of the series’ most intense action scenes, which is one of only a few that occur over the entirety of the show.

How significant is the location of the oil rig?

According to Martin, “An oil rig is quite an intense environment in and of itself, even before you factor in all of the spooky components and the gloom.” We came up with an amazing production design that was centered on the operational components of the rig.

Because you had to pass through hatches in order to reach various locations on the rig, the atmosphere was already tense, and the location of the filming felt like it could turn into a dangerous situation at any moment.

Setting it on an oil rig has a number of benefits, and one of them is that even if you don’t get along with some people, you will see them rather frequently. On an oil rig, there is nowhere to truly hide, which is why, right off the outset, it is an excellent setting for a drama.

Is the fact that your father worked on oil rigs one of the motivations that led you to sign up for this show?

Martin explains that this was one of the reasons why they did it: My work has benefited greatly from the collaboration of John Strickland, who not only directed but also produced the series.

I collaborated with John on the critically acclaimed BBC thriller Line of Duty, and we also worked together on the true-crime drama In Plain Sight, which aired on ITV1 in 2016.

“My father came down on a scheduled visit, and while he was here, we got into a conversation about oil rigs. He was discussing how he had worked offshore, and a couple of years later, John gave me a call and said, “Look, I’m doing this thing on an oil rig, and I remember from talking to your dad that you’ve got a bit of experience and know a bit about that world.”

Is there anything else that comes to mind that you may possibly relate the series to?

Martin is quoted as saying, “I’ve never come across anything quite like it. I found it to be quite original and one of a kind.

As a result, I won’t have seen anything like it because I haven’t read anything similar to it. In a world full of remakes, prequels, and sequels, it feels quite original and very standalone to me. However, someone else may point out influences or visual references that they’ve found surrounding it.

Given the atmosphere of terror that this creates, what kinds of things make you nervous in real life?

Martin is quoted as saying, “There’s really nothing there.

It’s kind of amusing because my wife, the American performer Tianna Chanel Flynn, is deathly afraid of spiders, and as a result, I spend my life chasing her about and picking up spider webs.

Surprisingly, despite the fact that I have a fear of heights, bungee jumping and skydiving are two of my favorite extreme sports.

Strange as it may sound, I get a thrill out of being afraid just a little bit, and I enjoy the rush of adrenaline that comes along with it.

The Rig: Filming Location

The Rig will be the very first Amazon Original Series to be shot entirely within the borders of Scotland. Filming will take place both on a Scottish oil rig and at FirstStage Studios, a new studio complex created at Leith docks by BAFTA-winning producer Bob Last and Jason Connery, son of the late James Bond icon Sean Connery.

Both locations are located in Edinburgh.

The buildings that now house VA Tech’s studios in Edinburgh were once the company’s headquarters. They were utilized in the production of the critically acclaimed film Avengers: Infinity War, which was released by Disney and Marvel in 2017.

The Rig: Production

The Rig was given the go-ahead for production in November of 2020, and all six episodes of the horror-mystery-thriller will be available to stream on Prime Video before the end of this year. Filming took place in 2021.

This is the first season of an Amazon Original Series that was shot entirely in Scotland. The events of the story take place on the oil rig Kishorn Bravo in the North Sea.

The Rig was filmed in part on a Scottish oil rig, which received assistance with the supply for its set from oil businesses in Aberdeen, which contributed to the film’s authenticity.
